We’re thrilled to celebrate this month the high school graduations of several of our past Barron Prize winners. As they and so many others mark this milestone and head into their next chapters, we thought it fitting to reprint a graduation address given by author and Barron Prize founder T. A. Barron.

We’re often asked at this time of year what makes a strong Barron Prize application. We’ve turned to the experts – our former winners – for help in answering that question. Here, six of our 2018 winners offer their tips for submitting an application that stands out.
As we head into a new year of the Barron Prize, we’re full of gratitude! We’re grateful we’ll again be awarding each of our winners $10,000 — double the prize amount of previous years. We’re thankful for the continuing support of our national partners and for the recent addition of several new ones. And we so appreciate the ongoing strong media coverage of our winners’ work, knowing those stories will inspire others to action.
We believe that young people can change the world. We also believe that young people want and need support as they work to make a difference. Who better to offer encouragement and guidance than other young change-makers – service-minded youth who have already launched a successful initiative of their own?
And so, we asked a handful of recent Barron Prize winners, “If you could offer a bit of advice to other young people looking to launch a service project or expand an existing one, what would you say?”
We’re thrilled to announce our 2018 Barron Prize winners and honorees! They’re an inspiring group of 25 young heroes from across the U.S. and Canada who are putting their passions and talents to work to do so much good in the world. They’ve hatched creative ways to address issues like literacy, plastics pollution, hunger, water conservation, and renewable energy.
We love staying in touch with our prize winners and are inspired by the good work they continue to do in the world. We recently caught up with a few of them and have highlighted here some of the great things they’re doing these days. Kudos to our winners, past and present, who continue to demonstrate what it looks like to live lives of courage, compassion, and hope!
